About the Harris Vincent Gallery
HARRIS VINCENT GALLERY is owned and operated by Herb Harris of Austin, Texas. I have collected Vincent motorcycles for many years and my collection includes many of the most legendary Vincent motorcycles still left in the world. In addition, I have other marques to include BROUGH SUPERIOR. These appear from time to time in articles in the major motorcycle magazines in the world.
In addition, I have won awards in some the top Concours d'Elegance in the US over the last decade. Lastly, I have built an internationally recognized collection of genuine, British Earls' Court Show factory sectioned motorcycle engines.
Though motorcycles are my passion, my professional career is that of an attorney in Texas. I recently completed 30 years in the profession and I am the CEO of my own firm, HARRIS & HARRIS.
OUR TRADEMARK
HVG owns the federal trademark rights to the image of Rollie Free riding the John Edgar Lightning motorcycle at Bonneville. As this famous Vincent is in the Harris Collection and as it has come to symbolize the spirit of overcoming risk with courage, we felt it best to display it as our trademark. The use of the image in connection with the sale of motorcycles or motorcycle parts is prohibited by Federal law.
SERVICE, REPAIRS AND TRADE INS
Unique to HVG is the concept that we may accept a trade in on a rare motorcycle from a customer if it meets our standards. The idea being to help satisfy a customers need for a rare item and make it possible for him to complete a sale without having to first spend his time to advertise, show and sell his present motorcycle before acquiring a new one. In this way, such motorcycles become more liquid as assets.
The workshop at HVG is run by a most skilled and experienced classic motorcycle mechanic. Because of this, customers of HVG can call on us for advice and in the extreme case, we will arrange to repair and service a motorcycle purchased from HVG at your site or if necessary, to ship it here. The costs of this are not cheap, but then neither is it cheap to let an expensive, non-running classic bike languish when it could be back to service. Finding capable mechanical repairs is nearly impossible and we expect that its easier for you to shift that to us than for you to burn up your time trying to get repairs done.
SOUNDS
The engine sounds that you hear when entering the HVG site are actual Vincent Black Lightning sounds we recorded here. They belong to a '52 Black Shadow with straight pipes and modified engine. It is a former nitro-burning drag bike named "THE BEAST." I am unaware of any other genuine Vincent being ridden with authority on the internet. Enjoy.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
In the site, we hope to provide a full and accurate description of the items with enough images to allow you to make your decision to purchase. The sales function is secure. Shipping on everything except motorcycles will be by UPS.
With few exceptions, items offered for sale are old. As such, items including the motorcycles themselves are more prone to breakage at this point than when they were as new. Accordingly, Harris Vincent Gallery does not warrant to the purchaser of such goods and all items, including motorcycles are sold "AS IS" and without warranty of any kind, including fitness for any particular purpose. Sales are conditioned upon the buyer's understanding of this and his acceptance of this as a term of sale. Old motorcycles require more maintenance than modern motorcycles and we caution you to seek help in this by reading the owners manual provided with the Vincent you purchase. This may be your first vintage motorcycle. We offer in-person training to the new owner here or by phone to demonstrate starting procedures and basic service checks each owner should use if he will be riding his HVG motorcycle. This is true from paint care to oil system care. We want you to enjoy owning the greatest motorcycles in the world and by using good strategy in maintenance and operation, you can protect your investment and have fun.
Sales of items are final. Harris Vincent Gallery makes every effort to accurately describe offered items and provide photos to insure that you know what you are getting. All items are as described and genuine as far as we can ascertain using reasonable diligence. Sales tax is applicable to Texas residents.
Buyers are advised that the Harris Vincent Gallery is an internet business and does not offer a sales showroom facility for shoppers. If you are purchasing a motorcycle and wish to come to Austin, Texas to personally inspect it before purchase, we can arrange a mutually convenient time to do so. Our time is limited to approximately one hour to show the motorcycle to the prospective purchaser. HVG does not pay commissions to brokers or middlemen ever. You will not be "protected" in any sale. We deal directly with principals. Please do not advertise that you have available the bikes of HVG if you are a broker. HVG will not "hold" motorcycles for interested parties, not currently ready to purchase.
HVG is laid out to allow the serious motorcycle collector to shop for items. It was also created to allow significant others to buy a present for their motorcycle-mad gentleman collector. For these people we offer gift advice and encourage the use of e-mail contacts. There can be few better surprise gifts than a fine British motorcycle.
I remind the site user that HVG was specifically built to offer items to those motorcycle enthusiasts who lack the time to seek out the rare items on the site and then find qualified restorers to bring a Vincent up to full and correct specification and running condition. It offers convenience, but at a price. HVG is not the least expensive, but we have what we offer and we have it today. Those who have the time to seek out their own items might find them at a lower price. This site is not for you. If convenience and instant gratification are important, then the fun starts now. Motorcycles are all about having fun.
