Vincent Black Lightining Fueltank

Description
The pictured fuel tank is a Vincent Black Lightning fuel tank. Lightning fuel tanks generally featured four fuel tap outlets so as to double the fuel flow to prevent fuel starvation. This was especially likely on the Black Lightnings built to run on alcohol based fuel as it took a relatively great amount of this fuel for the engine in comparison to gasoline burning engines. Another signature piece on a genuine Lightning tank would be the added bracket along the left lower line to support the float chamber on later models. Thus, the pictured tank is probably one built for later rather than earlier Lightnings. Only approximately 32 Vincent Black Lightnings were built and all were built to custom specifications.

Condition
A beautifully painted fuel tank, this particular tank features indentations for close in handlebars and a cut out for the large racing carb on the forward cylinder. The previous owner, particularly proud of this treasure, had a custom gold, tan and red pinstripe added to the tank top. Done in soft enamel pinstripe paint, this can be easily removed if this 60's touch is not required on your Lightning. Examine the underside photos carefully to see the four tap mounting fittings as well as the careful factory work done to make the Lightning changes from the donor regular tank.

The black paint is professionally applied and needs only some waxing to bring it back to show condition. This item appears to be in new condition and is undamaged. No work need be done before fitting to your Black Lightning.

History
This particular Lightning fuel tank came to HVG from the US parts inventory for Vincent. Harry Bellville bought all of it, including the Lightning spares and sold these for many years. Then, he sold the remainder to a Mass. collector who then sold it in the early 1990's to a New York collector. HVG purchased his entire Vincent collection. This New York collector admits to adding the beautiful stainless liner in the carb cavity on the left side. One can easily remove this.
