Description
SMITHS genuine Vincent Black Lightning speedometer and rev counter, Vincent part nos. PR 33/4 and PR 33/6 respectively.

Condition
These genuine clocks (British word) were original equipment on Black Lightnings. Today, they are in "as new" condition and function well. The yellow paint used on the faces distinguish them from ordinary SMITHS items as used on Black Shadows, etc. Note that the speedometer is marked to indicate 180 mph in speed, which was actually within reach of at least a couple of Black Lightnings.

History
Genuine Black Lighting speedometers and tachometers are rare. Since only 32 or so Vincent Black Lightnings were actually built at the Works, there was not a need for a great number to be built. And, since owners of Black Shadows and Rapides were more than satisfied by the look of the giant 5" speedometer of the Black Shadow, this understated, 3" item was not popular as a retrofit item. Also, one had to delete the ATD, automatic ignition advance mechanism, requiring a cable advance lever for starting, the rev counter was also seldom fitted to the lesser models. No Black Lightning is correct without Lightning clocks.

Documentation
I have one set of original SMITHS green boxes for these clocks that go with the set to the new owner. An HVG letter accompanies the purchase with the history as stated herein.
