Description
A rare and historic complete Black Lightning set of flywheels, rods, mainshafts and bearings. Vincent part no. ET4/2AS/2.

Condition
This complete Black Lightning bottom end is a factory produced set with some slight apparent use. The play in the rods indicates that the bearings and clearances are still correct. All surfaces of the connecting rods have been polished to a bright and smooth finish, to minimize the chance of a fracture. Likewise, the flywheels are highly polished, very much like the set in the JOHN EDGAR LIGHTNING. The mainshafts show signs of minimal use.

History
This set of factory built racing flywheels, rods, etc. comes from a collection in the Northeast US and dates back to the trip of New Zealand's foremost Vincent racers and world record speed holders, BURNS & WRIGHT. In the trip through the US to try to reestablish their record at higher speeds, they reached Bonneville, Utah. No new record was achieved, they thought because other racers misinformed them so as to cause them to use too light a portion of nitro in the fuel. Whatever the reason, the venture drained the team of money and to settle their bill with the US Vincent parts importer, Harry Bellville, they sold him their record breaking Black Lightning with fairing along with the spares necessary for such record attempts. The offered racing flywheels were a part of that collection.

Sold along with the balance of Bellville's remaining inventory, this treasure quietly moved to a collector in the 1970's in Mass. He sold the balance of this to another collector in New York State in 1990 and then, several years ago, that entire collection was purchased by HVG. This item is certainly one of a kind and is offered publicly for the first time in many years, perhaps ever.
