Description
ISLE OF MAN, TT Replica trophy, first class replica or "Silver Replica."
Condition This Replica, so named as the original trophy stays with the race organizers, is awarded to winners and top finishers of the greatest and most famous of all motorcycle races. The pictured item is in very good condition for an item 55 years old. The wooden, black lacquered base is not cracked or split and the silver-plated figure of Mercury retains nearly all of its original silver plating. A very small area on the figure shows the brass wearing through the plating, but this only serves to prove its originality. It has not been restored since its presentation in 1947.
History In our opinion, these Silver TT Replicas are the most important of all motorcycle trophies. The importance of the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy races cannot be overstated.
The offered trophy was presented to Mr. T L Wood. The silver plate mounted on the base is finely engraved to record that it was presented to Mr. Wood for having finished in 8th place in the 1947 Junior Race with an average race speed of 73.280 mph. It further bears the name of the race sanctioners, the Auto Cycle Union.
Pricing
Genuine TT Replicas are seldom, if ever, offered for sale. Ones from the "Golden Age of Motorcycling", 1940's to 1950's are especially important. As such, they are rare and expensive and perfect for the devotee of British motorcycle racing.
